"Welcome to the Next Level" — CD-ROM gaming arrives, full-motion video and all.
A CD-ROM add-on that gave the Mega Drive 160× the storage of a cartridge, opening the door to full-motion video and CD-quality audio. The library leaned hard on FMV — Night Trap got it dragged before US Congress — but it also gave us Sonic CD, Lunar, and some of the best anime-styled action games of the era. Commercially a disappointment, culturally an essential chapter.
