Sega's inaugural home console — released the same day as Nintendo's Famicom in 1983.
Sega's first home console marked their post-arcade entry into the living room. Built around the Z80A and TMS9918A graphics chip, the SG-1000 launched with a modest 51-game library and sold ~160,000 units in its first year — exceeding Sega's expectations even as the Famicom buried it commercially. Today it's the foundation stone of every later Sega platform.
